If there is one thing I am asked time and time again as a Beauty Therapist, it is about menopause skincare and make-up! Whether this be skincare or make-up! Whilst this transition period affects all of us differently, one thing that seems to affect us all is our skin. It could be dryness or loss of elastin that drops significantly since our 20/30’s, we start to notice the skin begins to sag around the eyes and neck.
Wrinkles appear to be more prominent and deeper, and redness is also another common problem that is down to the falling Oestrogen levels. During the first few years of Menopause, you will lose up to 25% of your collagen, this causes the thinning and drying of our skin. Collagen holds a huge amount of water so when this starts to diminish there is a lot less water in our skin.

Menopause Skincare
The most important skincare tips are;
- Hydrate the skin – It can become itchy and dry, so hydration is so important.
- Try Retinol – these can alter the behaviour of aged cells, regenerating them at a faster rate, these can be drying when you start to use them, but using Hyaluronic Acid products are fantastic for sensitive or dry skin.
- Peptides – stimulate collagen production, boosting the skins elasticity, they are tiny fragments of protein help make the skin look younger.
- Phytoestrogens – molecules found in the reproductive part of the plant, root and seed help to replenish the loss elasticity in the skin by mimicking the effect of Oestogen.

Menopause Make-Up
Lots of my lovely friends still want to look their best but do not want to have their make-up sliding off their face in the middle of a hot flush, or their foundation settling into their fine lines, so, I got to work finding out what brands out there really do work!
Lightweight formulas are great if you do suffer with hot flushes, concealers are great for covering up and achieving the desired coverage.
If you want to try multiple brands of makeup, some brands do a monthly makeup box with lots of things in to try!
Chanel Les Beiges Water- Fresh Tint Foundation
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer – Custard
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Mini Instant Retouch Setting Powder
Eyeliners can make your eyes stand out and with a soft gel pencil you can smudge it out for a softer look. Water-proof Mascaras are a must have a will last throughout the day.
Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner by Bobbi Brown Pitch Black
Lancôme Hypnose Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara Number 1, So Black

That healthy glow that brings that make-up look together, Blusher, you can look dull without it on, Bronzer’s can also do just as good a job and always finish with a setting spray, they can also keep your hot flush away too!
To finish your look, add a touch up to your eyebrows with a powder formula, if your eyebrows have become sparse use a Fibre Gel which can add volume and depth.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – DIPBROW Pomade
Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumising Eyebrow Gel
We can still look fabulous going through and coming out the other side of the Menopause, looking after our skin and using the appropriate make-up will have us looking fabulous for years to come!
